How do you become a Pharmacy Technician in France?
I'm a licensed pharmacy tech here in the US, but I want to move to France. How do I become a technician there? Is it more schooling? Are the drugs the same as here? And any other info you may have? Merci beaucoup!
Some drugs dispensed are the same, some differ depending on manufacturers. Some may be identical but bear different names.
Holding a Diploma of Technician would not be a qualification that would be considered sufficient to obtain a work and residence visa in France. You would have to be a fully fledged Pharmacist and be totally fluent in French.
To become a Pharmacist in France you have to have a Doctorate in Pharmacy and an additional diploma in your speciality. Studies take a minimum of six years after passing the school leaving certificate (Baccalauréat scientifique) but more usually nine.
There are three cycles of study. The first two last two years at the end of which there is a competitive examination Numerus Clausus, after which only 25% students are retained and one can anly have two goes at sitting it .
Once one has passed the final diploma one starts at the bottom of the pile as assistant / technician and work one's way up.

If you have a Doctorate in Pharmacy and are able to speak and write French totally fluently, you could apply to the "Ordre des Pharmaciens" and ask for your American qualifications to be recognised. Without their endorsement one cannot practise in France.
